I. INTRODUCTION
HyperDex was created to give users a fast, easy, professional, and
efficient menthod to store, retrieve and dial telephone numbers from
their computer. In addition, HyperDex maintains a database containing
all information pertinent to calls made, including date, time, length
of calls and comments.
HyperDex is simple and user-friendly. For those who wish to begin right
away, read the QUICK START section located below. For more detailed
information on operation and features, scroll down to the paragraph
titled USING HYPERDEX - FACTS AND FEATURES
II. QUICK START
Run the DEMO for a quick overview. Type DEMO and press a number for
each of the program's application sections.
Mandatory program files are contained in the file FILE.LST. Copy ALL
program files to your hard drive. HyperDex MUST be run from a hard
drive, NEVER FROM FLOPPIES!
Start the program with RUN. For those with an EGA/VGA system try
VGARUN which loads HyperDex with an attractive screen typeface and
a special color palette. You will be presented with a Main Menu
screen. RUN works on most computers with standard screens. Start
with RUNMONO if you use an LCD screen or laptop.
Select the option button Run HyperDex with a click of your mouse or
by tabbing to this button and pressing <ENTER>. A third way to
activate an option button is with ALT plus a highlighted letter.
In the Main Menu, for example, pressing ALT will display each
button's HOT KEY highlighted in a bright color "R"un HyperDex,
"A"bout and "Q"uit. Press ALT+R to RUN HyperDex.
Start the Main Program with Run Hyperdex. You are presented with
a sample enty form screen. You may continue to use this sample as
a guide or you may select New Card. Fill in name, addess and the
telephone number. Then press ALT+D dial or select DIAL with your
mouse. *NOTE* You must enter a phone number before going to DIALER.
When you select DIAL, your information from the main entry screen
is automatically inserted into the DIAL module. Set the modem speed
and COM port. You may now dial a number.
Select LOGGER. Your Entry Screen info will carry over into the
logger. Press Start Timing; a timer will begin and a log line
will appear in the notes. When you press stop timing, you will
be presented with a pop-up menu of log-out comments. That's it!
You've made and logged your first HyperDex call.
III. USING HYPERDEX - FACTS AND FEATURES
(A) PRINCIPAL OPERATING PROCEDURES
(1) Read the above paragraph to gain an overview of HyperDex, then
start HyperDex. At the Main Entry Screen, select NAME with your
mouse or with ARROW keys or by TABBING to the selection and
pressing <ENTER>. When prompted to fill in a dialogue box, do
so and then press <ENTER>. HyperDex moves you to the first ADDRESS
line and again, prompts you for another line. Follow this procedure
for the rest of the form. The card is automatically saved.
(2) When you exit HyperDex, the card will be saved permanently. You
may edit the card or delete it at anytime. When you delete a card,
it's gone forever. You may also print the card by selecting PRINT.
(3) After filling in a number of cards, you may sort them in variety
of matters. Select sort and your sort criteria will remain, even
after leaving HyperDex. You may sort and re-sort at will but only
the last sort will be saved when you exit HyperDex. When HyperDex
is re-started, you will be presented with the last card viewed.
(B) THE DIALER
(1) Before dialing, be sure to set the COM port and modem speed to
settings appropriate for your system.
(2) When you select Dialer, information from your Main Entry screen will
be carried over and inserted in the name/address. Simply press DIAL
and the number will be dialed. Be certain that you entered the
proper long-distance dialing codes (such as 1-202....) in the Main
Entry screen.
(3) Press DIAL and wait about three seconds. HyperDex will check your
modem before placing the call. Next, you will be presented with a
message "Dialing in Progress . . ." then "Pick Up The Phone."
If you wish to log the call, select LOGGER.
(C) THE LOGGER
(1) When you select LOGGER, you are presented with a new screen. Here,
two things happen simultaneously:
(a) Name, City and Number are carried across from the Main Entry
screen;
(b) LOGGER checks to see if it already contains a record with the
same NAME and NUMBER. This is important: **You can keep a
separate record for SAME names but DIFFERENT numbers.**
Likewise, HyperDex permits SAME number with DIFFERENT names.
(c) If NAME and NUMBER are identical with a previous record, call
is logged to the SAME record. Otherwise, HyperDex makes a NEW
record.
You may print the card (record), keep it or delete it at any time -
even during the call, if you wish. You may also SORT or PRINT the
record at any time. When you DELETE the record, however, it's gone
for good. As with the HyperDex Main Entry module, your records are
automatically saved.
